FREEDOM, Maine — Police say a man from Freedom who was arrested and brought to jail last week on a charge of domestic violence terrorizing got into a lot more trouble after he was placed behind bars.

Brian Knight, 40, was wanted by the Fairfield Police Department, which had probable cause to arrest him on the terrorizing charge, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. That department also told Waldo County deputies that they suspected Knight was growing marijuana illicitly in his residence.

When Waldo County deputies went to his home to arrest him on Tuesday, April 15, they did smell marijuana. They spoke to another resident in the home and received permission to search the house, finding 85 marijuana plants.

Then, when Knight was brought to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked, he reportedly called the female victim from a phone at the jail, trying to get her to drop the terrorizing charges and change her story. Instead, she called the Fairfield police, and Waldo County officials pulled the telephone recording of the conversation.

Police ended up charging Knight with a Class B felony charge of tampering with a victim, in addition to the charges of domestic violence terrorizing, violation of conditions of release and marijuana cultivation.
