Crews work to put out brush fire in Waldo County

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

PALERMO, Maine — Firefighting crews worked for about an hour Tuesday afternoon to extinguish a small brush fire off Route 3 in Palermo.

The blaze burned about an acre and a half, but “wasn’t a big deal at all,” according to Chief Michael York of the Palermo Volunteer Fire Department. The Liberty Fire Department assisted at the scene.

“It was a little windy, but not too bad,” he said later that afternoon.

The Maine Forest Service issued a warning Tuesday that fire danger is high in an inland swath of the state that moves southwest from Bangor and includes Palermo. It is moderate along the coast and north and east of Bangor.
