Waterville police looking for jewel thief

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

WATERVILLE, Maine — Local police are searching for a jewel thief who made off with a pair of wedding bands earlier this week.

The suspect, a white man in his mid 30s, walked into Tardiff’s jewelry store on Tuesday afternoon seeking to look at pieces, according to Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey.

A clerk showed the man a number of items, Massey said, two of which remained in his possession as he was walking up and down glass showcases.

The clerk was on the opposite side of the counter, the chief said.

Eventually, the man made his way to a point close to an exit, and scurried out the door, Massey said.

The suspect was wearing a blue Dysarts jacket at the time of the theft and stands between 6 feet and 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He has a mustache and black hair.

Anyone with information on the incident should call Waterville police at 680-4700. Anonymous tips can also be made at
