Mainers earn medals at U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships

HYANNIS, Mass. — Eight Maine skaters competed at the U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships April 8-12 at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center, earning medals in five events.

The Maine contingent ranged in age from 23 to 69.

Molly Spindler Smith, 30, and Adam Smith, 29, of Rockland earned the gold medal in Silver Dance.

Caroline Paras, 45, of Portland earned the silver medal in Silver Ladies III Dramatic and the pewter medal in Silver Ladies III Light Entertainment. She also finished sixth in Pre-Silver Solo Dance.

Elizabeth Houghton, 33, of Bangor earned the silver medal in Bronze Ladies II.

Mallory Lavoie, 24, of Orono earned the pewter medal in Masters Novice Ladies I.

Sharon Silberman-Hummels, 53, of Bangor earned sixth place in Bronze Ladies IV and fifth place in Bronze Ladies IV Light Entertainment.

Bridget Woodward, 69, of Bangor earned fifth place in Bronze Ladies V Light Entertainment and ninth place in Bronze Ladies V Dramatic.

Erica Rand, 55, of Portland finished ninth in Bronze Ladies IV.

The U.S. Adult Championships, which have been held annually for 20 years, featured 455 skaters competing in over 100 events. Skaters are divided into five age groups (21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61 and over) and two tracks (masters and adults).

Events are held in singles, pairs, ice dance and interpretive.
