GREENBUSH, Maine — A teenage girl who tried to break up a scuffle between two family dogs Monday afternoon wound up going to a local hospital after being bit on the hand, police said.

The 13-year-old, whose name was not disclosed, was not seriously injured, Sgt. Roy Peary of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The incident was reported at 1:20 p.m. Monday, Peary said, prompting a response from him and Greenbush’s animal control officer.

The dogs, a pair of mixed breeds, were playing outside at the time of the incident, according to Peary.

The girl was treated on scene and brought by her parents to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be examined further, the sergeant said.
