She married George Harris in 1953, lived in Connecticut early on until they moved back to Maine and resided in Howland for the last 40 years.
Shirley worked as a waitress at the local establishments where she became known for her cheerfulness and love of people.
Her interests included family, gardening, and crafts. She devoted much of her time and energy as a holistic healer, practicing reiki and reflexology for friends and family members.
Shirley most loved nature, and spent many hours with her husband, enjoying the river and forest around their home.
Shirley is survived by her husband, George Harris; daughter and son in law, Jonnie and Peter Hallett; grandson Peter John Hallett, all of Howland; sisters, Margaret Shadie of Clinton, Miss, and Loretta Eastman and her husband, Cecil of Belfast.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents and brothers Lionel “Skipper” French, and James French of Lagrange, Maine.
A memorial for friends and family will be held at a later date in Howland.
Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff at Cummings Health Care Facility in Howland for their wonderful care of Shirley while she was a patient there. Their love and support was greatly appreciated.
