Phillip Boulter Jones

CARMEL – Phillip Boulter Jones, husband of Charlene Fogg Jones passed away peacefully April 13, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. Phillip was born in Norridgewock, Dec. 2, 1930, the son of Katie and Clyde Jones.

Phillip graduated in 1948 from Hampden Academy, playing sports and singing in the chorus. Through life, he loved to sing. He sang in the Male Chorus in Bangor and for many years he was a member of the Hampden Methodist Church Choir. In January of 1952, he married Charlene Fogg, his childhood sweetheart. Their 62 year marriage was filled with children and laughter. After graduating from the University of Maine, he taught school at Sumner High School in Sullivan. He moved on to working for Sears Roebuck as a department manager, retiring after working for 37 years. During retirement, Charlene and Phillip enjoyed traveling. He built three homes, and a camp on Branch Lake, where he loved sailing and time with family. Phillip enjoyed skiing and many happy hours on his tractor working his woodlot. Phillip was a Past Master of the Mystic Lodge #65 A.F. & A.M. of Hampden, and a Scout Master of the Hampden Boy Scout Troop. He was a faithful and very active long-time member of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, a member of the church choir, and he also played the bells. He was the clerk of the works for the new fellowship hall. They recently dedicated a favorite hymn in his honor, and the tool closet in the fellowship hall is known as “Phil’s Closet”. He loved teaching the scouts about the outdoors. He was a good friend, always smiling, laughing and enjoying life. Phil’s presence in this world was honest, kind and loving; it affected all who knew him and he will be deeply missed. He departed as well-loved as anyone could hope to be.

Phil is survived by his wife, Charlene of Carmel; children, David and wife, Laurie and their children, Chad, Joshua, and Jessica; Danny, and his wife, Stacy, and their children, Aaron and Chantal; Donnie and his wife ,Gina, and their daughters, Lindsay, Ashley, and Kali; Susie Pellerin and her husband, Ted, and their children, Nick, Daniel, and Greg, and Sandy Brown and her husband, Rob, and their children, Matthew, Michael, Justin, Nicole, Danika, and Kyra; his 9 great-grandchildren, his sister, Patricia Totman, as well as many nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Robert and Richard.

A memorial service celebrating Phillip’s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, 44 Kennebec Road, Hampden, with the Rev. David Nicol officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Phil’s honor may be made to Cancer Care of Maine, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402.
