BELFAST, Maine — A Waldoboro man has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor after information came to light about two incidents that allegedly happened in 2012 in Belfast City Park.
Earl Leathers, 27, was arrested Friday after an investigation by Detective Merl Reed of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Leathers denied the allegations, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said Monday. Trafton said that in 2012, the alleged victim was less than 14 years old. Leathers is a family friend of hers, according to police.
Chief Bill Labombarde of the Waldoboro Police Department assisted in the investigation.
Leathers was taken to Waldo County Jail to be booked. He has since been released after posting $500 cash bail, according to a jail official.
