Ardith R. Turner

FORT FAIRFIELD – Ardith R. Turner, 76, wife of the late Earlon F. Turner, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Friday evening April 11, 2014 at her Fort Fairfield home. She was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Ralph Sr. and Freda E. (Haley) Hill.
Ardith was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1956 and upon graduation became employed as a telephone operator in Presque Isle for two years. She was married to Earlon F. Turner, May 28, 1960 and worked as manager of Brooks Drug Store, Fort Fairfield for several years, Vince’s IGA, Fort Fairfield for a number of years, and owned and operated Earlon’s Service with her husband in Fort Fairfield for nearly thirty years. More recently, Ardith worked at Goodhue’s Jewelry in Fort Fairfield, and at the time of her passing was employed by the Fort Fairfield Hillside IGA where she had been chosen as employee of the month. She also assisted several area potato growers over the years in their harvesting operations, including Peter and Gary LeVasseur, Frank White Sr. and Richard and Philip Kilcollins. Ardith was a member of the Fort Fairfield Alumni Association and loved to cook for C-A-N-C-E-R functions. She greatly enjoyed her monthly lunches with her classmates, and when someone did a favor for Ardith, they could always expect a fresh batch of whoopie pies waiting on their porch.
Ardith’s life was her family members including four sons, Stuart G. Turner and his wife, Barbara of Caribou, Steven D. Turner, Earlon R. Turner, and Clayton K. Turner and his fiancée, Lisa Gagnon, all of Fort Fairfield. Her beloved grandchildren, Taylor Turner of Presque Isle, Shane and Kelsey Turner, both of Fort Fairfield, Janelle Zeigler of Woodland, and Jason Wark of Caribou, four very special great-grandchildren, Madison and Jillian Zeigler, both of Woodland, Parker Wark of Caribou, Seth Michael Turner of Presque Isle. She also leaves behind two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Mary Hill of Yarmouth, Randy and Martha Hill of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Susan LeVasseur of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph Hill Sr. and Freda E. Haley Pye; and her husband, Earlon F. Turner on October 25, 2007.
Friends may call Tuesday evening, April 15, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the funeral home with Stan Harris officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, after the service. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Turner to C-A-N-C-E-R, P.O. Box 811, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
