BRUNSWICK, Maine — Scott Goldberg pitched eight innings, allowing just a single earned run, to lead the Colby College baseball team to a 8-2 win over Bowdoin on Friday afternoon.
Colby(11-5, 3-1 NESCAC) took advantage of four Bowdoin (12-7-1, 3-4) errors to score seven unearned runs in the victory. The Mules cashed in with four unearned runs in the third. Colby loaded the bases after a fielding error that would have been the third out of the inning, and took advantage with a pair of two-run singles from Nathan Ellis and Tyler Starks.
Bowdoin cut into the lead in the fifth by loading the bases and scoring on a groundout by Chris Nadeau. Another run scored on a balk, but Goldberg got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts.
Colby added two more runs on a throwing error in the sixth to seal the victory. Soren Hanson finished with three hits while Ryder Arsenault and Ellis had two apiece. Peter Cimini had two hits, including a double, for Bowdoin.
Goldberg (3-0) went eight innings, permitting five hits and one earned run while striking out eight.
Bowdoin 2, Colby 0
At Brunswick, Melissa DellaTorre pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit, as Bowdoin defeated Colby.
Bowdoin (14-6 overall, 3-1 NESCAC) scored its first run in the fifth when Casey Correa hit a leadoff single. Pinch runner Siena Mitman then stole second base and came around on Adriane Kull’s single.
Correa added a solo home run in the sixth.
Grace Farnkoff singled in the fourth for Colby’s only hit.
Megan Michie pitched seven strong innings for Colby (4-10, 1-2), allowing just two runs off six hits, while earning four strikeouts and one walk in the loss.
