Mary Ellen Pinkham

ELLSWORTH – Mary passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at her home in Ellsworth, Maine, after a brief battle with cancer. Mary was born on October 11, 1933, in Hampden, Maine, to Albert Cole and Myra Batchelder Cole. She was united in marriage to Ronald O. Pinkham on April 10, 1956. He preceded her in death in June of 2000. They were married for 44 years.

Mary received her teaching degree from Farmington State Teacher College in Farmington, Maine, in 1955. She worked as a teacher for many years, teaching locally, nationally and abroad before retiring from the Trenton Elementary School in Trenton, Maine. She took much pride in her profession and students.

Mary enjoyed reading mysteries, knitting and needlepoint. Her favorite pastime was listening to old-time country music.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Russell and her husband, Monir Hossain, of Ellsworth, Maine, and daughter, Catherine Berry of Otis, Maine. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jonathan Berry, Monica Berry Dibb, Bradley Russell and Rachel Russell. She had three great-grandchildren, Kai and Kazden Berry and Victoria Dibb. In addition to her family, she loved her special companion and pet, Chloe, who was always by her feet. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald O. Pinkham Jr. in March of 1990.

Her special friend, Anna Jediny, lovingly cared for and supported her through the years, especially during her illness. Glenn Russell also provided assistance with her care during her illness. The family gives them, and everyone else who cared for Mary their heartfelt gratitude.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, a memorial service will be held in Seal Harbor, Maine, in the summer. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to one’s favorite charity or institution or to Mary’s favorite, The Relay for Life/Team Nana’s Love by visiting www.relayforlife.org.
