TRENTON, N.J. — Henry Owens pitched 6⅔ scoreless innings Wednesday night to help the Portland Sea Dogs take a 9-2 Eastern League victory over the Trenton Thunder.
The left-handed Owens (2-0) allowed six hits, struck out nine and did not walk a batter, extending his string of 12⅔ scoreless innings to start the season with 18 total strikeouts and two walks.
Sean Coyle led the offense for Portland (3-3) with a double, a single and two RBIs. Mookie Betts and Deven Marrero (RBI) each singled twice, while Travis Shaw had a single and two RBIs.
Gary Sanchez paced Trenton (3-3) with a double, a single and an RBI. Rob Segedin hit two singles, while Ben Gamel and Robert Refsnyder each provided a double and knocked in a run.
Starter Bryan Mitchell (0-2) gave up six hits and four runs, all earned, with four strikeouts and four walks in four innings.
