ROCKLAND, Maine — The principal of Oceanside High School East confirmed Wednesday evening that he would be leaving after the end of the school year.

Tom Forti said he will be taking another job but said he wanted to wait to announce the details of the new position.

Forti was appointed principal of Rockland District High School six years ago and became the principal of Oceanside three years ago when RDHS and Georges Valley High School combined. Oceanside East educates students in grades 10 through 12. The school’s enrollment is 444.

Before being principal, he was assistant principal at RDHS for two years and the previous two years assistant principal and athletic director. He came to Rockland from St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Forti informed the school staff Wednesday.

Regional School Unit 13 — which includes Rockland, Thomaston, St. George, Owls Head, South Thomaston and Cushing — is also searching for a superintendent for the next school year.
