NAPLES, Maine — A 34-year old man on probation for failing to register as a sex offender is facing more charges after leading a state trooper on a pursuit Saturday night.

Nick Webster of Naples had been pulled over by Trooper Michael Smith on Route 302 in Bridgton after he was clocked going 74 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to Lt. Walter Grzyb.

As Smith approached the stopped vehicle, Webster then sped away, Grzyb said.

The pursuit continued a short distance down Route 302 and onto Halcyon Lane, a dirt road, the lieutenant said. Smith eventually found the vehicle with two female passengers inside and Webster gone.

A short time later, a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy was able to locate Webster, and he was placed under arrest.

Webster was charged with eluding an officer, OUI, driving to endanger and driving without a license. He was taken to Cumberland County Jail.

Grzyb said Webster’s probation officer was notified of his arrest.
