Saco eighth-grader wins Maine’s geography bee

FARMINGTON, Maine — A Saco Middle School student took top honors at the 2014 Maine Geographic Bee on Friday.

Eighth-grader Vincent Farlardeau topped numerous other students from around the state during the competition at the University of Maine at Farmington. He will go on to represent Maine in the national finals May 19-21, at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.

There were up to 100 fourth- to eighth-graders participating in events in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Atlantic and Pacific territories, and Department of Defense Dependents Schools.

The National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD will air the final round of the 2014 National Geographic Bee, moderated by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien, at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22.
