WATERVILLE, Maine — The Colby College men’s basketball team gained some notoriety last month, albeit for activities on the periphery of the court.
The Mules’ players received mention on Gawker Media’s sports website, Deadspin, for having the “best bench celebrations,” and included a video that can be seen here on YouTube.com.
The in-game antics of Colby’s bench brigade will go worldwide on Saturday.
Colby College has learned that the men’s basketball team’s bench players will be included in a feature segment on sideline celebrations during ESPN’S College GameDay program on Saturday.
ESPN producer Kris Schwartz and a film crew visited Colby’s Wadsworth Gymnasium on Tuesday to interview some of the players and Mules head coach Damien Strahorn. The players also re-enacted some of their routines, which were filmed by the crew.
College GameDay will air from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on ESPN and precede the NCAA Final Four. The feature on sideline celebrations is three minutes long and is likely to air between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Colby is expected to be included.
A press release from Colby also said the segment also is expected to run during Sunday’s 11 p.m. SportsCenter and possibly on other editions of SportsCenter..
The Mules’ video showing the choreographed enthusiasm and sideline routines of the bench players has been watched nearly 234,000 times since it was posted last month.
The Colby men’s team posted a 14-11 record and finished in eighth place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference standings with a 4-6 mark.
