ROCKLAND, Maine — A Knox County Jail inmate and his girlfriend were arrested and charged with smuggling drugs into the facility.

Stony Blue Vega, 34, of Rockland was charged Wednesday with trafficking in prison contraband and attempted trafficking in prison contraband.

According to an affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Vega was arrested a week after his girlfriend was charged. Police charged Alyssa Bennett, 18, of Rockland with trafficking in prison contraband and possession of Suboxone on March 28 . She was released on bail.

Bennett allegedly tried to smuggle Suboxone strips inside the spine of a Bible she brought to Vega, according to the affidavit.

A sheriff’s office investigator spoke to Vega who refused to speak and said he wanted to speak to an attorney. When told he was being charged, Vega told the officer to just add it to his other charges, according to the affidavit.

Vega made his initial court appearance on the charges Friday afternoon in Rockland District Court. He is being held on a probation revocation from a prior case and remains at the jail.
