BANGOR, Maine — Sami Schultz hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Husson University to a 6-5 softball victory over Maine Maritime Academy in the first game of North Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Boucher Field on Monday.
The Eagles took the second game 8-0 in five innings.
In the opener, Husson responded after the Mariners had tied the game with five runs in the fifth. Schultz also singled, while Allison Hill collected three singles and an RBI. Lyndsey Merrill had a double and two RBIs and Kayla Merrill doubled and singled for the Eagles (8-4).
Amanda Ryan spread out seven hits and five runs with 10 strikeouts and three walks to earn the win.
Losing pitcher Abby Yeo cranked a grand slam to lead MMA (2-4) and Ashlee Knight (RBI) doubled and singled. Hayley Rae singled twice.
In Game 2, Schultz rapped a two-run to spark Husson’s five-run second inning. Casey Lopes hit a two-run double, while Jess Poulin posted three singles and an RBI and Chelsea Brennan singled twice.
Kayla Merrill pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Rae had a double for MMA to support losing pitcher Erica Taylor.
At Boston, Kristen Tuleja scored four goals and logged three assists to propel Emmanuel College to victory over the University of Maine-Farmington.
Sarah Wootten recorded two goals and four assists and Sarah Higgins notched three goals for the Saints (7-2). Lauren White also tallied five saves.
Mara Balboni paced the Beavers (2-4) with two goals.Jaclyn Langevin and Ayla Allen each finished with one goal. Hannah Goodenow recorded five saves.
At Salem, Mass., the Salem State University Vikings (12-10) struck for four runs in the first inning and never looked back to defeat the fifth-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies (12-5).
The Vikings batted around in the opening frame, scoring four runs, highlighted by Brett Cahill’s sacrifice fly and Andrew Deloury’s RBI double.
Matt Verrier hit a solo homer for USM while Forrest Chadwick added an RBI triple and Sam Dexter had an RBI double.
