WINTERPORT – Henry Foster Harnish Sr., 88, passed away peacefully, March 30, 2014, at a Bangor health care facility. Henry was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Freeport, the son of Leander W. and Maltida (Jollymoore) Harnish.
Henry served on a destroyer in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning home from the military, he worked as a truck driver for W.H. Shurtleff in Brewer for many years. He enjoyed fishing with his son Bob, and not only watching stock car racing but helping with his son Mike’s racing team. Henry was a member of the Argonne American Legion Post No. 138, Winterport. Henry will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Henry is survived by his sons, Robert A. Harnish Sr. and wife, Patricia, of Winterport, Henry F. Harnish Jr. and wife, Terri, of Bangor, and Stephen T. Harnish and wife, Barbara, of Bangor; grandchildren, Carie, Mike Jr., Megan, Lynn, Robert Jr., Hollie, Jodie, and Brian; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Tiffani, and Chelsey, Cody, Gavin, Preston, Reese, Gavin, Kason, Kolby, and Alayah; siblings, Irvin, Leslie, Daniel, Elizabeth, Patsy, and Joyce; daughter-in-law, Deborah Harnish; a special friend, Etta Moran of Frankfort; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Henry was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Virginia E. (Quimby) Harnish; his son, Michael L. Harnish Sr.; an infant daughter, Marilyn; and siblings, George, William, Jeanette, Lillian, Anita, Foster Henry, and Anna.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, with Pastor Jeff Perkins officiating.
