Charles E. Young

CORINNA – Charles E. Young, 92, died March 29, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Togus following a long bout with cancer. Charles was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Newport, the son of George W. and Mildred (Emerson) Young.

He attended schools in Newport and graduated from Stetson High School in the class of 1939. Charles married Phyllis A. Jones in Newport on Oct. 30, 1941. She predeceased him on Nov. 9, 2006, after 65 years of marriage.

Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 18, 1943. Following his training he was assigned to Company C. 51st Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division commanded by Gen. George S. Patton and they battled through Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged on March 15, 1946, at a Tech 5.

Charles owned and operated a construction and lumber business in Stetson and also in Eddington for many years. He also worked as a salesman selling cars and heavy duty trucks in the Bangor area for many years.

Charles was a member of the Corinna American Legion Post 73 of Corinna, a member of the 4th Armored Division Association, a member of Parian Masonic Lodge No. 160 of Corinna, a member of the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club in Newport, and a former member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.

Charles is survived by one son and his wife, Charles G and Lucia I Young of Sun City Center, Fla.; three granddaughters, Antje, Stephanie, and Melanie; five great-grandchildren, Donald, Brooke, Thomas, Nicholas, and Sidney; two great-great-grandchildren, Kaysen, and Brenden; and several nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Seth Young, and Kenneth Emerson.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will be celebrated 11 a.m. July 11, at Clarks Hill Cemetery, Stetson.
