Winterport man accused of driving drunk, leaving scene of accident

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A 29-year-old Winterport man is facing multiple charges after fleeing the scene of an accident on Friday, police said.

Brian Stevens was involved in a property damage accident at the intersection of Main and Union Streets shortly before midnight, according to Bangor police Lt. Paul Edwards.

Stevens, who was intoxicated, fled the scene and subsequently parked his vehicle at Seasons, Edwards said, but the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident and witnesses followed him down Main Street.

After parking at Seasons, Stevens ran into the Penobscot Pour House across the street, according to Edwards, where he was identified.

Stevens was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and operating after suspension, both felonies, Edwards said, along with leaving the scene of an accident and violation of bail.

Stevens remained at Penobscot County Jail on Tuesday.
