Nine-year-old girl found safe after parents reported her missing

BELGRADE, Maine — A 9-year-old girl was found safely by authorities Saturday night after she left her Sahagian Road home, police said.

The girl was reported missing by her father shortly after 9 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

State police, sheriff’s deputies and game wardens responded to the area but could not find the girl, who left the family home at 7 p.m., according to Reardon.

The chief deputy said the girl was headed toward her grandparents’ house, located a short distance down Sahagian Road from her parents’ house.

Shortly before 11 p.m., the girl was found huddled up against the outside of a house on Bluejay Lane, Reardon said. The girl apparently turned around and headed for home because it was dark.

Nobody was home at the house the girl was huddled up against, Reardon said.

The girl was cold and a little wet when police found her but otherwise OK, Reardon said. He added that her parents planned to take her to a local hospital to be examined.
