NEWPORT and SANFORD, Fla. – Frank O. Pray, 85, passed away March 19, 2014, in Sanford, Fla. He was born June 5, 1928, in Palmyra, a son of Lewis and Nellie (Turner) Pray.
He graduated from Newport High School, class of 1946, and married Helena Mae Murray on Sept. 24, 1946. He was a manager for H. P. Hood Company in Union Springs, N.Y., until 1961. Frank then owned and operated Pray’s Service Station and Motel in Newport until his retirement in 1988. After his retirement he and his wife spent many years at their home on Sebasticook Lake in Newport and at their winter home in Osteen, Fla. Frank was very involved as treasurer of the board of directors at Kove Estates, and was also the head of the Kove Estates golf association for 16 years.
He was a member of Meridian Splendor Lodge No. 49 Newport, Stevens Royal Arch Chapter No. 28, St. Omar Commandery No. 12 of Waterville, and the Anah Shrine AAONOMS. Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, and especially the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by two sons, Frank Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Newport, and Charles and wife, Janet, of Waldo; a daughter, Cheryl and husband, Donald King, of Newport; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as many special friends in Newport and Osteen, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Waldo and Charles.
Graveside committal services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in the family lot, at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
