FAIRFIELD, Maine — A woman was killed Thursday evening in a fiery head-on collision on Route 139, according to police.
Fairfield police Chief Tom Gould did not disclose the name of the victim Friday afternoon.
He said the state medical examiner’s office will perform DNA testing in an attempt to identify the driver. Gould is hoping to have a positive identification by Monday.
Gould said the collision occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. Thursday.
The deceased driver’s vehicle burst into flames, the police chief said. A man who was driving the other vehicle, whose identity was also not revealed, was treated and released at Inland Hospital.
