EAST MILLINOCKET – David Byron Hathaway, 76, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, surrounded by his family. David was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Berlin, N.H., the son of Edgar and Helen (Nesbitt) Hathaway.
David grew up in East Millinocket, graduating from Schenck High School, class of 1957. He joined the Army in 1958 and stayed in for six years. While he was stationed in France he met the love of his life, Chantal. He was married in Tours, France, and they lived there for a couple years. When his mother became ill he packed up his family and returned to East Millinocket. He got a job at the Great Northern Paper Company as a heavy equipment operator, a career that spanned 34 years. After his retirement he worked for Arthur York in Medway. He said many times it was the best job he ever had! David was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and boating. He was also an avid shooter, joining teams while stationed in California, as well as several local teams. He won numerous awards for his shooting prowess.
In addition to his wife, Chantal, David is survived by his children; daughter, Caroline and her daughters, Jessica and Tara; son, Gary and wife, Debbie, and their daughter, Kayla, and son, Michael and wife, Stephanie, and their son, Jackson.
Special thanks and appreciation goes to his hospice nurses, and especially for his granddaughter, Jessica, who gave him loving care right to the end.
Friends may visit the family 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at First Congregational Church of East Millinocket, 11 Maple St., where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. with Pastor Dottie Hutch, officiating.
