WARREN, Maine — A 38-year-old Warren woman died after an oncoming pickup truck crossed Route 1 and struck her head-on, police said.

Alison Low was dead at the scene, according to a news release from Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Low was driving south in a 2003 Subaru Forester when the vehicle collided head-on with a northbound 1997 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Samuel Simmons, 18, of Spruce Head.

Simmons’ vehicle crossed the center line for reasons not yet known, Carroll said.

Two passengers in Low’s vehicle — Dustin Kimball, 18, of Warren and Olivia Blachet, 18, of Waldoboro — were both injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where they are listed in critical condition, Carroll said.

Simmons was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with minor injuries.

The crash occurred at about 7:30 a.m., near Andes Variety. Traffic was rerouted for several hours.

Deputy Paul Pinkham of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, while Sgt. Ken Smith of the Rockland Police and Lt. Mike Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are assisting. The accident is still under investigation, according to the release.

Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services, Warren EMS and Thomaston EMS responded to the scene along with the Warren Fire Department.
