Merlon A. Dunton

RIPLEY – Merlon A. Dunton, 76, died peacefully March 15, 2014, in Hartland. Merlon was born Sept. 16, 1937, on the family farm in Pittsfield. He was the son of the late Harry and Edna (Taylor) Dunton.
He attended the Pittsfield schools, graduating from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1957. He was a true family farmer, raising chickens, turkeys and cattle. He drove truck, hauling logs for many years in Millinocket. He also hauled gravel for Stan MacMillian and Sons, the Cianchette brothers and for Bouchard.
Merlon’s life was his Big Mack Truck, always transporting something. He enjoyed camping with Kay, traveling around in his big Montana to several fairs and campgrounds around Maine. There are very fond memories at the Shady Oaks Campground in Orland. Merlon and Kay spent several years in Dade City, Fla., and they also enjoyed going on cruises with family members.
Merlon was a member of both the Pittsfield Grange and the Ripley Grange. He will be lovingly remembered and missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kay Pierce Dunton of Ripley; sister, Corris Dunton Richards of Mattawamkeag; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Stephen Boutelle of Augusta; nephew, Robert Dundas and his wife, Stephanie, of Bath; niece, Denise Day and her husband, Jeffrey, of Lincoln; great-niece, Jessie-Rae Day of Lincoln; great-nephews, Justin Day and his son, Jayden, of Lincoln, Taylor Dundas of Bath and Chandler Dundas of Bath; stepsisters, Eva Allen Charily of Florida and Alice Allen Ouelette and her husband, Allan, of Iowa; stepbrother, Clifford Allen and his wife, Rhonda, of Canaan; several cousins; and many close friends, too many to mention. He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Ethel Allen Dunton; sister-in-law, Marilyn White; and brother-in-law, Leroy Pierce.
