Two hospitalized after collision on Route 3 in China

CHINA, Maine — Two people were taken to the hospital Monday morning after a collision on Route 3 in Kennebec County, state police said.

Renee Ouellette, 19, of Palermo was attempting to pull out of a private driveway shortly after 11 a.m., when she was struck by a Dodge Caravan driven by Gregory Dubay, 47, of Waterville, Trooper Eric Verhille said.

The trooper said a patch of ice at the end of the driveway caused Ouellette’s tires to spin a bit, delaying her approach to the road. Dubay was heading eastbound at the time of the crash.

“He tried to avoid hitting her but wasn’t so lucky,” Verhille said.

The impact sent Ouellette’s Chevy into the westbound breakdown lane and the van Dubay was driving into a driveway, the trooper said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and both vehicles’ airbags deployed.

Ouellette and Dubay were taken to MaineGeneral Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening. The vehicles were towed from the scene.

Delta Ambulance and China firefighters assisted state police.
