Skowhegan police investigating rash of car burglaries

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Police in Somerset County continued to have problems with car burglaries over the weekend.

A week after Madison police reported numerous vehicle break-ins, Skowhegan Police Chief Ted Blais said Monday that his department fielded eight calls about break-ins on Sunday.

Blais said all the break-ins occurred late Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.

The break-ins occurred near Adam and Maple streets, Dr. Mann Road and North Avenue, the police chief said. All vehicles broken into were unlocked.

Items stolen included sunglasses, a Go-Pro camera and a couple of GPS navigation systems, according to Blais.

He believes the car burglaries may be connected to the ones that occurred in Madison. Blais is advising residents to keep vehicles locked.

Anyone with information on the break-ins should call Skowhegan police at 474-6386.
