Eleanor Doris Berdeen-Gross

STONINGTON – Eleanor Doris Berdeen-Gross, 91, passed away peacefully March 12, 2014, at the Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle. She was born Aug. 31, 1923, to Cecil L. and Lucy V. Berdeen.

Eleanor attended the Roxbury Latin School in Massachusetts and graduated in 1941. She then worked at Hartwell farms as a prep cook until she and her family moved to Deer Isle. There she met her husband Paul and worked at Percy L. Brown’s as a book keeper for over 20 years.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Leonard and his fiancée, Sherry Shepard, of Stonington; granddaughter, April Coombs and husband, Mathew; and great-grandson, Ethan of Stonington; her grandson, Michael Gross and wife, Kate, of Orrington; and her granddaughter, Kelly Gross of Eagle Lake.

A special thanks to the Island Nursing Home nurses and staff for all of your love, time and care during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Island Nursing Home Resident Activity fund or to the Memorial Ambulance Corps of Deer Isle. A graveside service will be held in the spring and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements made by Bragdon – Kelley Funeral Homes.
