New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has asked for his release after 10 seasons with the team, according to the NFL Network.

Wilfork is entering the final year of his contract, and the Patriots had reportedly approached him about restructuring his deal, which calls for a base salary of $7.5 million and a total salary cap charge of $11.6 million for 2014.

Wilfork suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the fourth game last season. The 32-year-old is a five-time Pro Bowl selection who has anchored the interior of New England’s 3-4 scheme for the past decade.

Wilfork will turn 33 in November, and wants to continue playing so his desire is to hit the open market as soon as possible, according to the report.
