PORTLAND, Maine — An elderly Portland man who was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street Saturday night has succumbed to his injuries, Portland police announced Thursday afternoon.

Lt. James Sweatt of the Portland Police Department said in a news release that Elliot Burton, 74, died at Maine Medical Center on Tuesday.

“His passing is a result of the injuries he sustained on March 8, 2014, at approximately 6:40 p.m. when he was struck by a car near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Pitt Street,” Sweatt wrote in the release, in part.

Police previously identified the driver of the vehicle, a 2006 Toyota, as Lindsay Lathrop, 26, of Falmouth. In an announcement earlier in the week, police indicated that neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the incident.

Lathrop was not injured in the incident, police have said.

Sweatt said Thursday the department’s traffic division is continuing its investigation of the case.
