Police investigating body found near Walmart in Bangor

At 8:56 a.m. Thursday, a person walking on Stillwater Avenue called police to report a body that was found lying face down next to the AT&T building and the entrance to Walmart, according to Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.

BANGOR, Maine — A man was found dead near Walmart on Stillwater Avenue on Thursday morning, according to police.

A witness reported seeing the deceased man at 8:56 a.m. and notified police, according to Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.

Officers responded and found the man lying on the ground next to the sign that marks the entrance to Walmart, Rumsey said.

The department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the matter further, and the man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives, the sergeant said.

The man’s body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

CORRECTION:

An earlier version of this story said a passerby reported the body at 9:07 a.m. , The body was found at 8:56 a.m., according to police.
