Newcomer beats incumbent for Orono school board seat

ORONO, Maine — The two Town Council incumbents easily earned another term during Tuesday elections, but one of two school board members running for her seat again was beat out by a newcomer, according to unofficial election results provided by Town Clerk Donna Emerson.

Town Council incumbents Geoffrey Gordon, with 366 votes, and Cynthia Mehnert, tallying 387 votes, easily defeated residents Daniel Robert LaPointe, who took in 78 votes, and Derrick Slopey, who earned 74 votes, for their two open seats.

RSU 26 board incumbent Jacob Jerome Eckert, with 351 votes, and new candidate Shari L.M. Kinnison, who tallied 313 votes, earned the two open school board seats, ousting incumbent Lisa Buck, who took in 206 votes.
