Money found in Orono parking lot still unclaimed

ORONO, Maine — Someone dropped an envelope containing money in a local parking lot in January and authorities are still seeking the owner. Even though a story was posted on the town’s website, no one has come forward to claim the money, Orono Police Chief Josh Ewing said Monday.

It was found about 12:30 p.m. January 19, Ewing said in an email interview.

The money was found in a bank envelope, but few other details are being released because only the owner will know how much is in the envelope and the parking lot where it was located.

The person who found the envelope containing the money could put in a claim for it in June, Ewing said.

“We have to wait 6 months, and then it can go to the person who found it,” the police chief said.

Anyone who lost money in Orono about two months ago can contact Officer Chris Watson or Detective Sgt. Derek Dinsmore at the Orono Police Department, 866-4000.

“We would like to return it to the rightful owner,” the online post states.
