BANGOR, Maine — A 27-year-old Hermon woman was arrested Saturday after Bangor police were called to Vision Care of Maine for a report that a woman there was acting oddly and smoking marijuana in the building.
The series of alleged incidents that led to the arrest of Katie Lane began shortly after noon, when employees of the Ridgewood Drive eye care center asked police to remove Lane from the building, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said Monday in a news release.
Rumsey said that Bangor police Officer Kyle Pelkey arrived on scene to find Lane sitting in a meeting room near the lobby. The room allegedly smelled strongly of marijuana, Rumsey said.
“Lane admitted to smoking marijuana in the building but felt it was OK because she had a medical marijuana card,” Rumsey said. “Officer Pelkey informed Lane that Vision Care wanted her to leave the building.”
Despite being ordered numerous times to leave the building — and despite being warned that she would be arrested if she continued to stay — Lane stayed put, Rumsey said. Lane also allegedly was unable to produce a medical marijuana card for the marijuana cigarette and jar of loose marijuana that she had in her possession before Vision Care staff took them away from her.
Lane was arrested on charges of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Rumsey said.
