Pedestrian struck crossing Forest Avenue in Portland

By Beth Brogan, BDN Staff

PORTLAND, Maine — A 75-year-old man suffered serious injuries Saturday night when he was struck by a car on Forest Avenue.

The man apparently was crossing Forest Avenue near Pitt Street just after 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2006 Toyota, according to a news release from the Portland Police Department.

The 26-year-old woman driving the Toyota, whose name was not released, was not injured. The pedestrian was taken to Maine Medical Center with what police described as serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, but police say neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been a factor.

No additional information was immediately available.
