EAST MADISON, Maine — A home and a barn on Tupper Road were destroyed in a fire on Thursday night, according to officials.
The barn “was totally gone when we got there,” Madison fire Lt. Donnie French said.
“We concentrated on saving the house,” said French.
But despite the efforts of firefighters from five communities, the house could not be saved.
“The house I would say was a total loss due to heat and smoke damage,” the lieutenant said.
Firefighters from Madison, Skowhegan, Anson, Cornville and Solon were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m., French said. Crews remained on scene until about 1:30 a.m.
Multiple farm animals also perished in the blaze, French said. A cause will likely not be determined due to the severity of the damage.
The woman who owned the house was insured, French said.
