Bangor police: Hit and run suspect who allegedly stole car remains at large

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A suspect whom police allege stole a car and got into an accident on Interstate 395 on Thursday remains at large, according to police.

Earlier Friday, Bangor police had posted a photo on their Facebook page of an SUV they believed the suspect may have gotten into after the accident, said Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.

Rumsey said the SUV’s driver contacted police and verified that they did not pick up the suspect, and that SUV may have been helping people in a pickup truck allegedly involved in the crash.

The suspect stole a vehicle from a hotel parking lot on Odlin Road before the collision near the Farm Road exit of I-395. The suspect then allegedly got into another vehicle that took the Farm Road exit off of the highway

The suspect is described as a tall, thin white male who was wearing an “orange-ish” puffy jacket.

Police are looking to speak to witnesses and the person who drove the suspect from the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to to call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7384. Witnesses who would prefer to remain anonymous can call the department’s tip line at 947-7384, ext. 6.
