ROCKLAND, Maine — A 32-year-old Owls Head woman was apprehended Wednesday after she crashed her car into another vehicle after allegedly fleeing a supermarket with stolen liquor, police said.

Amy Grant was charged with theft, violating a condition of release, operating after suspension, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower.

Tower said he was patrolling on Maverick Street when he noticed a car that was abandoned on the side of the road. At the same time, he received a report of a theft at the nearby Hannaford supermarket.

Investigators allege that Grant was stealing a single bottle of Tequila when a store security officer tried to prevent her from leaving, but she ran to her car, a 1993 Mitsubishi sedan, and sped off. She drove onto Maverick Street and attempted a left turn onto Knott Street, where she struck a 2014 Chrysler sedan driven by Kari Barlow of Thomaston.

Barlow was not injured.

Grant ran from the scene but was later found and arrested by Knox County Deputy Michael Sprague.

Grant remained at the Knox County Jail on Thursday morning.

Damage to Barlow’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Grant’s vehicle sustained damage estimated at $500.
