WARREN, Maine — A veteran Portland school administrator will be the new superintendent of Regional School Unit 40.

The RSU 40 Board voted Thursday night to hire Stephen Nolan, said Board Chairman Danny Jackson.

The board approved a two-year contract that begins July 1. His starting annual pay will be $105,000.

Nolan has been principal at the Lincoln Middle School in Portland since 2008. He served as that school’s assistant principal for the four previous years.

From 2000 through 2004, Nolan was a math teacher at Mount Ararat Middle School in Topsham. Nolan is a resident of Topsham.

Nolan will succeed Michael Cormier, who has been interim superintendent since July 2013. Cormier was hired to replace Susan Pratt.

RSU 40 consists of Union, Warren, Waldoboro, Friendship and Washington. There are about 1,800 students in the district.
