Drunken joyride at Maine Lobster Festival ends in jail time

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — A 25-year-old Rockport man was sentenced Monday to 14 days in jail after he admitted to taking a golf cart, driving it drunk and striking a volunteer last summer at the 2013 Maine Lobster Festival.

Calen S. Erskine was sentenced by Justice Jeffrey Hjelm to the 14 days for unauthorized use of property, operating under the influence, assault and refusing to submit to arrest.

According to Assistant District Attorney Jeff Baroody, Erskine took a golf cart used by the festival volunteers to travel around the grounds of the annual summer event at Rockland’s Harbor Park.

The festival volunteer was not injured when he was assaulted by Erskine as the victim tried to stop him from taking the cart.
