ELLSWORTH – Doris Herrick Hamilton, 89, passed to her heavenly reward March 1, 2014, at Courtland Rehab & Living Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 10, 1924, daughter of Wesley and Gertrude (Maddocks) Herrick. She was the wife of the late Hollis S. Hamilton and was fortunate to have a loving stepmother, Sara (Astbury) Herrick.
She worked alongside her husband in a successful grocery business and many years for Union Trust Company. Doris especially enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bingo, card games and rummy cube. She was a member of the United Baptist Church of Ellsworth.
She is survived by her children, Ralph and wife, Brenda, of Manchester, Conn., Ron and wife, Joanne, of Ellsworth and Venice, Fla., and Joyce White and husband, Willis, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Jim, Scott, Aaron, Brian, and Kirsten Hamilton and Matthew, Brooke and Kristy White; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Gertrude Linscott, and Catherine Griffin; sister-in-law, Helen Carter; brother-in-law, Milton Hamilton and wife, Ida; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Leamon, Frank, and Elmer “Bud” Herrick; sisters, Evelyn Moore, and Helen Cushing; and great-granddaughter, Kourtney Clark.
Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at United Baptist Church, corner of Pine and Hancock Streets, Ellsworth. A private family burial will be held in the spring.
