Orono council and school board candidates night set Thursday

ORONO, Maine — Members of the public will have the chance to hear from candidates running for Town Council and the school board during a forum 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Town Council incumbents Geoffrey Gordon and Cynthia Mehnert are running against residents Daniel Robert LaPointe and Derrick Slopey for two open seats.

School board incumbents Lisa Buck and Jacob Jerome Eckert are being challenged by resident Shari L.M. Kinnison for two open seats.

The candidates’ forum is being held at the Council Chambers. Local elections are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Town Hall.

There also are two open seats on the Orono-Veazie Water District, now held by Scott Hall and Jay Fortier, which the Orono council is expected to fill by appointment in the next few weeks, the town clerk said.
