BANGOR, Maine — An Orono man indicted last year by the Penobscot County grand jury on 94 sex charges was indicted again on Wednesday and now faces 135 charges, Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford said.

Wyatt Tripp, 39, also known as Wyatt Higgins-Tripp, was charged last June with 36 counts of gross sexual assault, 48 counts of unlawful sexual contact and 10 counts of sexual abuse of a minor. At that time, police said he sexually abused a young male relative for more than eight years.

“This is a supplemental indictment [based on] additional victims,” said Clifford. “He’s actually assaulted a bunch of young boys [over several years].”

There are now five boys, ranging in age from 12 to 17, who have come forward and told investigators that Tripp sexually assaulted them, Clifford said.

The grand jury indicted Tripp on Wednesday on six counts of gross sexual assault, 25 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and 10 counts of unlawful sexual contact.

Tripp has been held at the Penobscot County Jail since April 10, 2013, unable to make bail set at $20,000 cash.

If convicted, Tripp faces up to 30 years in prison on the most serious charge of gross sexual assault.
