SURRY – Benjamin John Smith, 48, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 20, 2014. Ben was born Dec. 17, 1965, in Blue Hill, to William T. Smith and Jane McGraw Smith. He graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1984, from Eastern Maine Technical College in 1991, and from South University in 2011. He served in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. He married the love of his life, Leca Scott, on Sept. 20, 1997.
Ben was predeceased by his father, William T. Smith. Ben will live on in the memories of his wife, Leca; his mother, Jane, and her partner of 30 years, Arthur Shields; brother, Richard Smith of Surry and Rhonda Smith of Blue Hill; brother, Thomas Smith and wife, Marilyn, of Blue Hill; brother-in-law, Jesse Noto-Nevells and wife, Heather, of Sedgwick; mother-in-law, Barbara Noto and his Gram Noto, Dorothy; his Dad Reg; nieces, Erika, Aisha, Lillianna, and Maerea; nephew, Kove; great-niece, Kelsee; great-nephews, Cameron and Chancellor; and goddaughter, Dakota Rose. Ben also leaves behind numerous beloved cousins, in-laws, outlaws, and dear friends.
Donations in Ben’s memory may be given to the McGraw Educational Fund, care of Dan McGraw, P.O. Box 529, Surry, ME 04684. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the whole community of loving family and friends. An open celebration of Ben’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Barncastle in Blue Hill.
