PORTLAND — Poland Regional High School shocked its corner of the basketball world Saturday, rallying from a 19-point deficit to win the Class B West boys title for the first time in school history, 63-59, over top-seeded Greely.

The Knights, who lost by 23 points to Greely during the regular season and trailed 23-4 and 27-9 in the first half, will play fellow sixth seed Old Town for the state championship Friday night at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

In girls action, Lake Region won its third straight Western Maine Class B basketball title and sixth in nine seasons Saturday, pulling away from Wells in the second half for a 59-51 victory at Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Lakers will travel to Cross Insurance Center in Bangor to face Mount Desert Island on Friday. MDI ended Presque Isle’s 64-game winning streak in the Class B East final.
