Police arrest 2 men in connection with Waterville smoke shop burglary

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

WATERVILLE, Maine — Police on Wednesday arrested a pair of suspects in a Jan. 21 burglary at a local smoke shop.

Richard Lee and Nordac Dooley, both 18, of Waterville, were taken into custody on a pair of search warrants, according to Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

The burglary at Vapors and Tobacco on Main Street was reported to police on Jan. 21, Rumsey said.

At the time of the incident, officers found a shattered door and tobacco and smoking products stolen.

Detective Alan Perkins, the lead investigator on the case, got a tip on Wednesday that Lee was headed to a probation office at U.S. District Court in Waterville for a meeting, and a search warrant was subsequently executed on him, Rumsey said. Lee was taken into custody without incident, he added.

A second search warrant was conducted following Lee’s arrest at a Wentworth Court address where Dooley resides and Lee may have been staying, Rumsey said. The residence is across the street from the smoke shop.

After a search of the residence turned up evidence from the burglary, Dooley was arrested. Both he and Lee were charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. The two were taken to Kennebec County Jail.

Bail for the men was set at $2,250. They are scheduled to appear in court on April 15.
