Portland police: Body found near hospital parking garage is Westbrook man

By Seth Koenig, BDN Staff

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police on Wednesday said they have identified a body found Tuesday morning along Congress Street as an adult male from Westbrook.

Lt. James Sweatt of the Portland Police Department reiterated Wednesday that investigators believe the individual likely jumped to his death from the nine-level Maine Medical Center parking garage.

Sweatt said police have notified the man’s next of kin, but do not as a practice publicly release the names of people who are believed to have died from suicide.

Police responded to the scene just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
