Pastor Carl Robert Smith

OLD TOWN – Pastor Carl Robert Smith, 79, the husband of E. Beryl (Brown) Smith, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Orono with his sweetheart by his side. He was born June 20, 1934, in Charleston, the son of Clifford and Erma (Lawry) Smith.

He graduated from East Corinth Academy, class of 1952. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior which changed his goals from farming to becoming a lifelong preacher of the gospel of Christ. Carl attended Bible School in St. Johnsbury, Vt., from 1965 to 1968. He served as a Pastor in S. Northfield, Vt., Paris Hill, Faith Bible Church in Olamon and churches in Greenfield, Swansville, Topfield and Perry. His service to God never wavered and he was never to busy to help those who needed him. He was a wonderful example of God’s love to all and will be greatly missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years are his children, Michael Dean Smith and his wife, Mildred, of Bradley, Valerie Jean Stanford and her husband, Carrington, of Clinton, Janise Robin Day and her husband, Brad, of Milford and Jonathan Mark Smith and his wife, Donna, of Hermon; a sister, Beatrice Vigue of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Faith Bible Church in Greenbush with the Rev. Robert Dunlop and Pastor Jeff Tenney officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to join them for a time of refreshment and celebration at the church following the service.
